Quantify the impacts of energy-efficient CAVs control with real vehicle in a virtual environment

For the past 20 years, Argonne has been evaluating the impact of vehicle technologies at the system level. Using Autonomie, dedicated workflows have been developed to support the assessment of individual powertrain components (e.g., energy storage, electric machine, engine) in an emulated vehicle. AMBER’s ability to automatically build entire vehicle systems combined with Autonomie’s capability to model any powertrain or component technologies/sizes allows to for quick back-and-forth between simulation and Component-in-the-loop.

More recently, focusing on connectivity and automation and the added control flexibilities enabled by the knowledge of the environment, Argonne has expanded its xIL capabilities to include Vehicle-in-the-Loop (VIL). Centered around RoadRunner, the novel workflow allows the evaluation of an actual vehicle in an emulate environment. The VIL workflow has been successfully demonstrated on multiple vehicles in multiple environments (chassis dynamometer, on-road, on-track) and multiple scenarios.
